FAQs

We are here to answer all of your questions.
  • How often is practice?
We have practice every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday in Henry Crown Sports Pavilion. For exact times and places, check our schedule on the Home page. Though we would love to see you and get to know you more, you absolutely do not have to come to every practice. We know how crazy Northwestern’s quarters can get.
  • Where is practice?
Practice is in the studios in Henry Crown Sports Pavillion (SPAC). It is located next to the Walter Athletics Center and across from the Cook Hall East Parking Lot. Once you enter, a SPAC staff member will check you in. Continue straight and turn left and you will see signs for the studios. There are several buses that you can take to get to SPAC or close to SPAC, including the Campus Loop, CTA 201, Intercampus, and Evanston Loop. For more information, check out Northwestern's shuttle page.
  • Who can participate in Northwestern Taekwondo?
Any Northwestern student is welcome! That includes undegraduates, graduates, and students at the School of Professional Studies.
  • Do I have to pay to be a member?
As a sports club, we do ask our members to pay dues that go towards funding uniforms, equipment, transportation to competitions, and socials. Dues are $40/quarter and we typically ask for them the second or third week of the quarter. You may apply for the Student Activities Assistance Fund (SAAF) provided by Student Enrichment Services (SES) to help cover your dues.
  • Do I need to know Taekwondo before joining?
Absolutely not. You are welcome whether you are a third-degree black belt or someone who just discovered TKD yesterday.
  • Do I need to bring any equipment?
Just bring yourself, athletic wear, and a water bottle! We provide all other equipment, but if you have your own gear, feel free to bring it.
  • How do I advance to my next belt?
Belt testing happens at the end of each quarter. Before every belt testing, you should be comfortable with the forms (poomsae), one-step sparring, and kicking combinations. You will also be tested on basic Korean terminology and Taekwondo tenets. Check out our Curriculum page for more information. It might seem overwhelming but, don’t worry, come to practice and the captains and your teammates will help make sure you’re ready for each belt testing.
  • How do I stay updated on socials?
Come to our practices! The social chair will add you to our private Facebook page for the academic year. The Facebook page is where we will be posting about both formal and informal socials.
  • What if I have more questions?
